How does Somnee work?Updated 10 months ago
Somnee uses a patented approach to closed-loop neurostimulation to learn and promote your brain’s natural sleep signals for a better night’s sleep.
Here’s how our tech works:
- For the first 7 sessions (Mapping Phase), the Somnee headband delivers gentle baseline sleep stimulation with safe tACS (transcranial alternating current stimulation) through the hydrogel electrodes attached to the flex clip. This stimulation is designed to mimic and enhance your brain’s unique patterns of brainwave activity before sleep.
At the same time, the advanced EEG+ sensors on the headband monitor your brainwave activity to study the unique way your brain likes to sleep.
After every session, Somnee analyzes your brain’s activity pre- and post-stimulation to see how effective it was at helping you sleep. It then uses those insights to improve your stimulation the following night. - Starting your 8th session (Personalization Phase), Somnee begins using what it's learned to personalize your nightly stimulation. Just like in the Mapping Stage, every night Somnee reviews how effective its stimulation was to fine-tune its approach and becomes more effective over time.
While some Somnee sleepers see benefits as early as their first few sessions, it’s during Personalization (after 14 to 21 completed sessions) that 80% of our users see the biggest shifts to their nightly sleep and daily energy.
Somnee is the only sleep aid that uses personalized stimulation to directly improve sleep quality. On average, a stim session cuts the time to fall asleep by 50%, increases sleep duration by 30+ minutes, and reduces tossing and turning by over 33%, so you wake up relaxed and recharged.
On average, Somnee is 4x more effective than melatonin, 2x more effective than Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-i), and 1.5x more effective than Ambien in improving sleep efficiency and duration.
