Is tES safe?Updated 8 months ago
According to a review of over 18,000 tES sessions published in the journal, Clinical Neurophysiology, low-intensity, ‘conventional’ tES is safe.
Specifically, the study found that “no serious adverse events (SAEs) have been reported so far in over 18,000 sessions.”
Here’s a brief excerpt from the study’s meta-analysis, defining the threshold for low-intensity tES:
“Safety is established for low-intensity ‘conventional’ TES defined as <4 mA, up to 60 min duration per day… In specific paradigms with amplitudes of up to 10 mA, frequencies in the kHz range appear to be safe."
The intensity levels used by Somnee's Smart Sleep Headband are even lower than those found to be safe in the study.
