What's the research or science behind Somnee's technology?Updated 10 months ago

The founders of Somnee — including UC Berkeley neuroscientists Dr. Matthew Walker, Dr. Robert T. Knight, Dr. Richard Ivry, and Dr. Ram Gurumoorthy — have developed and researched the science behind Somnee since 2017.

Over the past 7 years of research and development, they've led several studies in clinical settings, including a 3-year study conducted in our advanced sleep lab in Berkeley, CA, and an at-home pilot study with 1,500+ nights of data collected. Both our sleep study and our pilot were blind, controlled research studies that were overseen by our Scientific Advisory Board and approved by an independent Institutional Review Board.

In both studies, on average, Somnee:
- Cut the time it takes to fall asleep in half
- Reduced nightly tossing and turning by 1/3
- Improved sleep by 30+ minutes a night

An additional study supporting our findings was published in the peer-reviewed journal, Frontiers in Neuroscience in 2022.
